SERVICE PARTNERSHIPS

At Soroptimist International of Oxnard (SIO), our service projects are rooted in a deep commitment to strengthening our community through hands-on support, compassion, and meaningful action. We partner with local organizations and initiatives to meet real, immediate needs—whether it’s providing food assistance, supporting women and families, or uplifting those facing hardship. Through volunteerism and community collaboration, we strive to create lasting impact, foster connection, and ensure that every individual has access to the resources and support they deserve.

Supporting Girls' Education Around the World

Soroptimist International of Oxnard Proudly Sponsors a Student Through the Girls Education Program

This year, 2026 and for the past four years, Soroptimist International of Oxnard has proudly sponsored a young woman in Bangladesh through the Girls Education Program (GEP), operated by Speak Up for the Poor.

The GEP was established in 2013 to help girls remain in school in areas where severe poverty, child marriage, and child trafficking place many young women at risk. Through educational sponsorships, mentorship, and support, the program empowers girls to pursue education, build confidence, and create opportunities for a brighter future.

Today, more than 1,700 girls and young women are enrolled in the program, including hundreds pursuing higher education. More than 100 young women have already graduated through the GEP — many becoming the first in their families to do so.

Our sponsored student entered the program in 2021 and is now in 12th grade, preparing for her High School Certificate examinations in 2027. Her progress represents the life-changing impact that education and global support can provide.

At SIO, we believe educating girls changes families, communities, and generations.

Why This Matters

  • Helps prevent child marriage and exploitation

  • Keeps girls safely in school

  • Encourages leadership and independence

  • Creates pathways out of poverty

  • Supports higher education opportunities

Food Share - Ventura/Oxnard

Through our partnership with Food Share Ventura County, we help fight hunger in our community by supporting food distribution programs that provide nutritious meals to families in need.

Soroptimist International of Oxnard proudly partners with Food Share Ventura County to help address food insecurity in our community.

Through volunteer service and community support, our members assist with food distribution efforts that provide nutritious meals to individuals, families, and seniors who may otherwise go without.

By working together with Food Share, we help ensure that our neighbors have access to healthy food while strengthening the spirit of compassion and community care throughout Ventura County.

VENTURA STAWBERRY FESTIVAL

Strawberry Festival weekend was a huge success in 2025! Over the two days, we served over 2,500 margaritas and will be receiving a check for over $4,300! Thank you to those who volunteered, particularly to those who worked both days with me. It was a little taxing after the two days, but well worth the effort.

The 2026 California Strawberry Festival will be held May 16–17, 2026, at the Ventura County Fairgrounds, offering strawberry-themed food, live entertainment, and carnival rides. Key highlights include over 40 food vendors, arts and crafts, and proceeds benefiting local charities. Tickets range from $8–$15, with free options for young children.
